We believe that forcing people who have nothing and live in the dirt to come to you for help is backwards. We believe we with resources should be coming to them. To that end we have purchased a houseless mobile community center

We bought it at the very beginning of 2025 right when a couple severely bitter cold weeks set in.

We immediately made it available for emergency shelter. We ran it 24/7 for a total of a month. It worked better than we could have possibly imagined. About a dozen people used the trailer during that time. Here’s a picture from one of those days:

Everyone got along really well. It felt like that size of community worked very smoothly.

The main purpose of this trailer is not for emergency shelter, although it certainly has that ability.

The main focus is as a mobile community center for the houseless community.

It has running water, a toilet, a shower, a stove, a refrigerator and a microwave. It runs on propane and a gas powered generator. We also have satellite Internet. It provides so many services all in one unit. It solves a lot of problems people face living on the street.

But most of all, it solves the problem of community. With endless tent sweeps and increasing laws against camping anywhere, cities are destroying the communities of these people.

Community is an incredibly powerful force. It can heal. It can warm your heart. And it can provide resources. Community has always been at the foundation of what we do with this group of people.

Our focus has always been the people who have been living on the street for years, if not decades. Clearly, we are not serving these people satisfactorly if they feel like the best option they have is to freeze unsheltered on the streets of a midwestern city like Akron. Something is not right with our system.

We have tried buildng a day center and multiple versions of tent cities. All have been closed by the city with no alternative solution.

We refuse to quit. So, this mobile community center is the next iteration of this work.

Sage faces jail time and fines if he puts one more tent on his land. We’ll  have to wait and see how the city of Akron figures out how to close down this mobile community center. It won’t be at all surprising if they do it. But it’s going to be challenging considering, by it’s nature, it moves.

We can’t allow the forces of a callous, unthoughtful government dictate the actions of a few people who know we must do better by those who suffer the most in our society. Human history has endless stories where governments oppress, jail and kill people they don’t like. It also has endless stories of people who have stood up to those inhumane and cruel forces. We are the people who stand up.

We will not give up. Ever.

If you are able to support our work we would be deeply grateful.

We are always in need of things like coffee, sugar, powdered creamer, paper plates, plastic utensils, disposable coffee cups, non-perishable food like ramen noodles, cans of soup with pull tops, peanut butter, jelly, bread and things like that. We also need gas for the generator and propane for the furnace, stove and hot water heater.

We unfortunately have no room for clothes. We can, however take hats and gloves in the winter.

We also distribute tents, tarps and sleeping bags.

We are nothing without you. Thank you for being the good ones on planet Earth.
